Musicianship Week
Four times a year, students ages 18 and under attend a Musicianship Week class in place of their regular private lesson.
Musicianship Week gives students dedicated time for music theory, ear training, music history and appreciation, improvisation, composition, and learning with other musicians.
It’s part of your student’s private lesson curriculum. When you receive the Musicianship Week email, review the class schedule and register for one class through the Student Portal.

How does it work?
During Musicianship Week, regular private lessons for students 18 and under pause for the week. Instead, students attend one Musicianship Week class designed for their age, instrument, or level.
Options include instrument-specific classes, advanced theory classes, and practice labs. Check the schedule for the classes available for your instrument and level.

Review the class schedule and recommendations in your Musicianship Week email.
2. Register your student.
Sign up in the Student Portal for a class that fits your schedule and level.
3. Come make music with us.
Your Musicianship Week class takes the place of your regular private lesson that week.

What if no class at my student’s level fits our schedule?
Email the office or text 916-818-3882 before Musicianship Week. We can help you find the next-best class or another suitable option for your student.
What happens if we miss our Musicianship Week class?
Contact the office to arrange another suitable class later that same week, if available. Missed classes do not receive a private make-up lesson or make-up credit, even with advance notice, and cannot be made up after that Musicianship Week.
Can we skip Musicianship Week and have our regular lesson instead?
Musicianship Week is a required part of the curriculum, complementing students’ one-on-one learning. The class replaces that week’s private lesson; a regular lesson cannot be substituted. If a student does not attend, that week’s lesson is missed. Tuition stays the same, with no refund, credit, or make-up lesson.
Why it matters
There’s more to learning music than the next piece on the music stand.
Musicianship Week gives us time to explore the ideas behind the notes—hear how a composer tells a story, try an improvisation, or turn a theory concept into a game. Students learn alongside other musicians, share ideas, and make connections they can bring back to their private lessons.
Whether a student loves performing, is working toward a competition, or simply enjoys making music, these experiences help them become more curious, capable, and independent musicians. The fun and the learning go together.
