OUR APPROACH TO VIOLIN
More than one way to learn.
There isn’t one method that’s right for every violin student. Our approach draws from different teaching traditions to build listening skills, strong technique, music reading, and musical understanding together.
We incorporate many of the strengths of the Suzuki Method, including careful listening, learning by ear, repetition, and a supportive approach to young beginners. We combine those with music reading, theory, and other tools from the beginning, giving students a strong foundation and the flexibility to grow in whatever direction their music takes them.

We keep violins in a range of sizes available for free trials, so your child can try an appropriately sized instrument before you rent or buy one. Meet your teacher, try playing, and get guidance on the right size and what you’ll need for home practice.

School strings
School strings programs are a wonderful way to start making music with other students. Private lessons add the individual attention that’s hard to get in a group setting—supporting bowing, intonation, reading, technique, and the music they’re learning at school.
Advanced study
Students who want to go further can pursue advanced repertoire and technique, Certificate of Merit, adjudicated festivals and competitions, AP Music Theory preparation, additional performance opportunities, and advanced study. Your teacher can help you choose goals and opportunities that fit where you want to go.
Musicianship Week
Discover music beyond your lesson.
Four times a year, students through age 18 come to a group class instead of their weekly lesson—exploring theory, listening, creative challenges, and new musical ideas together.

$45 registration at enrollment and annually. Books and materials separate. Sibling and multiple-instrument discounts available.
Before you begin
A few helpful answers.
What happens at the free trial?
You’ll meet your prospective teacher, try making music together, and talk about your interests and experience. Your teacher can also help with violin sizing. It’s a chance to see how lessons feel and find a good fit.
How young can my child start?
We’ll help you consider your child’s readiness and find a good starting point. For many young children, Harmony Road is a wonderful introduction to listening, rhythm, and making music together.

Do you teach adults?
Yes! Adult beginners and returning violinists are welcome. Your teacher will build from your experience and the music you’d like to make.
What if I already play violin?
We welcome students coming from private lessons, Suzuki study, or school orchestra. Your teacher will get to know what you’ve learned and build from your strengths and interests.
Should we rent or buy a violin?
Your teacher can help you choose an appropriate size and talk through renting or buying. Children’s instrument sizes change as they grow, so start with sizing advice before choosing one.

How does practice work?
Your teacher gives you clear assignments to guide practice between lessons. Parents are welcome to sit in, so you can see what your child is learning and how to support them at home.
