Your weekly lesson is still the heart of it. Your teacher gets to know how you learn, what motivates you, what challenges you, and the music you want to make.
But private students at Heart Beats are also part of a music school. Four times a year, students through age 18 step out of their regular lesson for Musicianship Week, and throughout the year there are recitals, special events, and opportunities to make music alongside other students.

Musicianship Week
Four times a year, we mix things up.
It’s one of the ways we give students experiences that are hard to create in a one-on-one lesson—new ideas, shared discoveries, and more ways to make music.
Most weeks, students work one-on-one with their teacher. Once each quarter, Musicianship Week takes the place of the regular lesson for students through age 18. Students come together for theory, creativity, musical exploration, and learning with other students and teachers.
Students age 19 and older receive private lessons instead.
There’s plenty of room to grow.
Some students are learning their first notes. Others are preparing for a performance, an evaluation, or a competition. We want students to have opportunities that fit where they are and where they want to go.
In addition to school recitals, students may participate in Certificate of Merit, National Guild Auditions, festivals, adjudicated events, competitions, and other performance opportunities when appropriate. These programs are optional, and your teacher can help you decide which opportunities are a good fit.

Weekly lessons. Flat-rate monthly tuition. Choose a lesson length with your teacher.
Tuition covers 47 lessons each year, divided into 12 equal monthly payments. For students through age 18, that’s 43 private lessons and 4 Musicianship Week classes. Students age 19 and older receive 47 private lessons.
A $45 registration fee applies at enrollment and annually. Discounts are available for siblings and students taking multiple instruments. Books and materials are billed separately.

Before you begin.
Who can take private lessons?
Children, teens, and adults—whether you’re learning your first notes or building on years of experience. For many young children, Harmony Road is a great place to start.
What happens at the free trial?
You’ll meet your prospective teacher, make some music together, and get a feel for lessons at Heart Beats. It’s free, and it’s a chance to find a teacher who feels right for you.
What happens during Musicianship Week?
Once each quarter, students come to a group class instead of their regular private lesson—a week to explore music, try new ideas, and learn together. Musicianship Week is a required part of our private lesson program for students through age 18. Students age 19 and older continue with private lessons.
What if I need to miss a lesson?
With at least 24 hours’ written notice, you can schedule a make-up lesson up to twice per quarter, or four times during the summer.
How do I discontinue lessons?
We require 30 days’ notice to end lessons. Just submit our 30-Day Notice form. Tuition continues during those 30 days, and all your lessons remain available to you.

No—these opportunities are optional. Whether you’re interested in a new challenge or simply love making music, your teacher can help you choose what fits your goals.
Are recitals required?
Yes—for students through age 18, recitals are part of the Heart Beats experience: a welcoming chance to share your music and celebrate your progress. For students age 19 and older, participation is optional.
