Getting Started with Online Lessons
Choose somewhere where you can let your guard down and make a few necessary mistakes. Also, you will need enough room to wave your arms around and stand at least 4 feet away from your camera.
Required Materials:
Internet-Enabled Device
Microphone (e.g. built-in device mic.)
Camera (e.g. built-in device phone)
Moderately High Speed Internet Connection
Recommended Materials:
Headphones or earbuds to avoid echo cancellation
Separate device (e.g. smartphone and a speaker) to play an accompaniment/karaoke track
As always, please bring your music and some water! Also, students under 18 are welcome to have an adult sit in on our lessons. All online communication will go through parents and guardians. Thank you!
Optimizing a Video Call
Zoom:
Please watch the first 4:30 minutes of this video to learn how to enable Original Sound for Musicians on Zoom. Students using headphones or earbuds can also disable echo cancellation from the same settings window. High-fidelity music mode is rarely required.
